October 18, 2019 –
Andrew Rehfeld, Ph.D., is the 10th president of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religious (HUC-JIR) and the first non-rabbi to lead HUC-JIR in its 144 year history. He will be our guest speaker on Friday, October 18, at the Shabbat Evening Service at 6:15 p.m. He will speak on Creating a Still, Small Place in a Loud, Large World: Jewish Leadership in a Time of Indecency.
The former head of the St. Louis Jewish Federation and professor of political science at Washington University, Dr. Rehfeld is now overseeing the four campuses of HUC-JIR which educate leaders to serve the Reform Movement and the Jewish people worldwide.
On his new role, Dr. Rehfeld said: “I am committed to vibrant Jewish communities and to the future and sustainability of the Jewish people. I don’t think there is a single organization that trains leaders that has as large an impact on the Jewish public sphere — certainly in America — as HUC-JIR.”
