SUKKOT
Sukkot
is a harvest holiday that is celebrated for eight days. We build sukkahs,
huts with wall and a transparent roof so we can see the sky. The sukkah
reminds us of the huts the farmers used to build when they stayed in their
fields overnight during harvest time. Sukkahs are decorated with
branches, leaves, fruits and vegetables. Many families eat their meals in their sukkah.
Symbols of the holiday are the lulav, made of myrtle, palm and willow
branches, and the etrog, a fruit shaped like a lemon.

9:30 a.m. - Super Sukkot Sunday
This morning is open to the entire synagogue community and
will be an enriching and fun opportunity for all – bring your children, your
grandchildren, bring yourself! Super Sukkot Sunday begins with a light
breakfast of bagels, coffee and juice. Then you choose what works best for
your family. There will be activities, crafts and fun at Fairmount Temple.
Then board Lolly the Trolley and go to the homes of fellow Fairmount Temple
families to see their sukkot. There is no charge for this wonderful morning
of celebrating Sukkot with others.
To make reservations, please contact Cathy Lipton
at 216-464-1330, ext. 126 by Wednesday, Sept. 26.
Activity
For Sukkot, cut open various fruits and vegetables. Which have
seeds? Match the color/taste of the juice with the fresh fruit or vegetable.
Then place the seeds from these fruits and vegetables in a resealable plastic
bag with a wet paper towel. Keep the bag near a window. Watch what happens.
Plant the sprouts and continue to watch the growth.
Song
I BUILT A LITTLE SUKKAH
(Tune: "I Made a Little Dreidel")
I built a little sukkah.
I built it out of wood.
I hammered it together.
Just as I knew I could.
Refrain:
Oh, sukkah, sukkah, sukkah,
I built it out of wood.
I hammered it together.
Just as I knew I could.
On top I placed some branches,
So I could see the sky.
Inside I hung some apples.
I hung them up so high.
Refrain
Inside I waved the lulav
And the etrog, too.
Inside I placed a table
With chars for me and you.
Refrain
Let’s eat our dinner in it.
I know it will be fun.
Come, join us if you want to.
Come, join us everyone.
